After its founding in 1851, the Hill School found that it needed an expansion after an influx of students. This resulted in 4 wings being added to the original Meigs House. Originally, the Chapel was located in the the third addition, but it was eventually rebuilt its present location. After its construction, this photograph was taken from the roof of the faculty houses that resided in the space that is currently Dutch Village Dorms.

We estimate this photo to be taken around the 1940s or 1950s, and this is because the Library, Chapel, Meigs House, Cottage Dormitory, and Upper School are all there.

This picture was taken by a photographer who climbed up the rungs in the chimney of the science building. In the picture, the old Middle School, the third addition to the Meigs House, and some of Pottstown can be seen.
